Wardrobe Wednesday Sneak Peek: Photoshoot with Leah Harb

Lovelies,
As I told you Monday, I had a collaborative fashion shoot scheduled with the fabulous Leah Harb. Leah is an immensely talented photographer in the Portland/Vancouver area. If you are looking for someone to do amazing lifestyle shoots in the Pacific NW, I highly recommend her. Check out her website here.
{note - she also does gorgeous boudoir sessions - I love the site for this. Justin Timberlake FTW}
Here's a little peek at some of the shots:
{styling by dash harris. photography by leah harb}

I did all the wardrobe and makeup styling, and she scouted the locations and directed my postures. It was a beautiful collaboration, and I can't wait to work with Leah again!

Makeup Monday: Musings

Lovelies,

I was thinking today about how your makeup can really tie together a whole outfit. I decided to muse on the effect of red nail polish on a couple ensemble:
dressy couple - red accents

Isn't it funny how choosing a single cosmetic element can lead to a whole visual creation? I did this board for my friend Kayla {you may recognize her from this and this}. She's putting together some ideas for her clients to use as they prepare for photoshoots.Although, with her talent, they could pretty much wear a paper sack and look good. ;)

What do you do to anchor your look? Or are you more of a free-wheeling person?

Makeup Monday: Simplicity+headbands

Darlings,
I want to do a give you a little taste of one of my favorite artists. Julie Jack is also one of my best friends - Boo and her boo are bff's, and we all 4 moved to Portland together! She is an amazing artist, and happens to be good at making anything and everything cute.
She makes these AMAZING headbands, which I especially love now that I have short hair.
Here is the one that I just bought from her etsy store:

{i'm wearing these earrings}

My makeup for the day was, as you can see, purply and soft. Perfect for a rainy day with precious accessories.

Do yourself a favor and check out Julie's website here.

I hope your week is off to a lovely start!

Belle of the Ball

Loves,
I got back from San Francisco last night... still a little exhausted. :)
I am a little behind, so I want to start with the best-dressed girl at the wedding I attended last weekend:

Izzy is her name, and she is so. damn. cute.

the photos were taken at the end of the night, so the lighting isn't the best, but you can still see the fabulous detail of her dress and the little bolero. She topped it off with a great clutch and some REALLY hot pumps.
This girl was my hero at the wedding. :)

Ok, I am recovering from travel, but be on the lookout for new posts tomorrow!
Oh, and GET YOUR ASS ONTO MY WEBSITE TO LOOK AT THE STELLA & DOT FALL LINE.

Thrifty finds

Darlings,

You may not know about my extreme love for thrift stores... But it is real. I just can't help myself.
Today, I hit up the local Goodwill - in a town with a high college population, summer is a great time to go because the young, hip crowd is gone until fall. :)

I made a couple of great finds, and came out less the $9!

First:

This dress is so cute and airy. Perfect flirty summer dress.
I am debating about whether to shorten it or not... what do you think? I kind of like it long... hmmmm.

Then, I fed my lingering obsession - scarves:

I want to learn to tie them in my hair like Keiko Lynn - I haven't quite mastered that yet. :)

Happy Friday!

Marfa Fashion Shoot Pt. 1 - Retro Glam

Darlings,
I mentioned to you before that I styled a fashion shoot with my dear friend Kayla Barker in marfa a while back. Here are some of the photos! Kayla is going to give us several posts, and I am doing a style recap for each one. Here are some fun details about part one!
(click photos to view larger)

1. Our gorgeous model, Michelle, had never done any modeling before... she totally blew me away! I knew she had a perfect style for what I wanted for the shoot, but I had no idea how comfortable she would be in front of a camera. SHE WAS A NATURAL. Girl could work it!
For all of these shots, I had pulled Michelle's hair into a slow, loose side bun. (Tutorial to come)
In this segment, she wore a Phoebe Couture dress. This dress went perfectly with the glorious Thunderbird Hotel's surroundings. The shoes are  Michelle's own - I have no idea where they are from, but they happened to be great.
For jewelry, Michelle is wearing the following Stella & Dot items:

I kept the accessories simple for this one. Her makeup is a simple, elegant style, with a touch of drama. I used NARS blush in Desire. I applied a dark plum shadow to the crease and created a wing, and used a heavy line of Revlon Colorstay Liquid Liner.
The lipstick in these shots was a revlon color that I will have to hunt down to remember. :)

2. Also at the Thunderbird, the shots in the green dress were high on drama and low on fuss. The dress is a vintage find that I came across in an Austin Thrift store a few years ago. It is one of my favorite pieces. Ever.
With the color change, I left Michelle's makeup as it was. She wore:

3. The final outfit in the Retro Glam series was a Bestey Johnson dress. I snagged it at the outlet in San Marcos for a steal. Again we used Michelle's shoes, which modernized the look.
We pulled back her bangs for this one - I think it sweetened her face. It was lovely.
I intensified her plum and black makeup, deepening the concentration. For her lips, we switched to a pinkish tone.
Her jewelry was pretty fabulous for this one:
J. Crew Starfish Earrings $34.95

The women in the laundromat were having quite a time watching us!
This was such a fun adventure...

Make sure to check out Kayla's full post (MORE PHOTOS!).
There is more to come. :)

Summer Wedding wear

Darlings,
Today I went to the wedding of a sweet friend. It was a gorgeous wedding at Elmwood Gardens. The ceremony was outdoors, and this is June in Texas, so I decided to be a breezy as I could. This is the breakdown of my outfit:

So hot.

My hair was like this:

These shoes:
(tacky photo, I know. I'll replace it soon. :))

Headband from Loft, similar to this, but gold:

I wore neutral eye makeup and a cherry pink lip, inspired by this:

and my ring:

Plus earrings:
